Barbara Hennessy has been teaching yoga since 2005. Her particular interest has always been Restorative Yoga, and she has been an Urban Zen Integrative Therapist since 2010, inspired by the layering of relaxation techniques particular to that yoga therapy.
She has developed a love for the practice of Reiki, first introduced to it during her Urban Zen training, and became a Reiki Master in 2013.
Barbara is a Clinical Coordinator for the Urban Zen program at Southampton Hospital where she works with patients and their caregivers, and supervises students during their Urban Zen clinical training. She teaches Urban Zen Restorative Yoga for Cancer Survivors at the Southampton Hospital’s Wellness Center, and co-teaches Urban Zen Restorative Yoga with fellow graduates of the program at Yoga Shanti in Sag Harbor, N.Y. Barbara volunteers weekly at a Women’s Shelter, where she is inspired and humbled by her practice of Urban Zen and Reiki with the clients there.
Barbara is from the New York area, where she lives with her husband, Bill, and where they raised their three beautiful children, a daughter and two sons. She loves New York, and especially her home near the ocean in Amagansett. She is so pleased to be teaching with Sarah Halweil, her close colleague at Southampton Hospital, as well as with all the teachers in this accelerated training, who have been learning and working together as UZITs since 2009.
