About This Program
Imagine a healthcare system where the patient is treated, not just the disease—a system where Eastern healing techniques support Western medicine in a holistic approach to patient care. In 2009, the Urban Zen Foundation launched the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy Program (UZIT) with a mind toward realizing this vision. Starting with self-care, the UZIT program includes training in yoga therapy, essential oil therapy, Reiki, and contemplative care.
Inspired by Donna Karan and designed by Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman Yee, UZIT begins, in its level-1 training, by giving anyone interested in self-care a complete set of tools to modulate or alleviate their own stress, pain, anxiety, sadness, and digestive issues. In level-2 training, students learn how to provide Urban Zen’s cluster of therapeutic support services to others: family members and friends facing illness, injury, or stress; those in and out of hospital settings, including senior-care facilities, hospice, and nursing homes; students in schools and yoga studios; and men and women working in corporate environments. Urban Zen’s curriculum is uniquely designed to address the classic symptoms associated with illness: pain, anxiety, nausea, insomnia, constipation and exhaustion.
