Core Intelligence: Your Core from the Pelvic Floor
With Liz Ilgenfritz
Location: Sag Harbor
Level: Open (all students welcome)
Cost: $45 per workshop, $85 for both sessions.
Get ready for a core revolution! This former “ab-aholic” and mother of four is tired of the way core work is taught. Through her own personal practice, pelvic floor education and exploration, recovery from 4 childbirths and poorly taught “abs” classes, Liz has created smarter, safer and more effective ways to develop an intelligent core. No more tucking and twisting, crunching and pushing! In this series, you will learn to work deeper and smarter as we redefine what the core is and how to access it.
July 10th: Part 1
The Pelvic Floor: The Floor of Your Core
When you think of the core, what comes to mind? Six pack abs? There is much more to the whole of your core than what lies at the surface. In Part 1 of this series, we will begin to access the core from its foundation. You will discover the anatomy and physiology of your pelvic floor and explore how posture and breath are integrally related to pelvic health, your core and overall well-being. Liz will guide you through practices that encourage you to connect with and begin to understand the state of your own pelvic floor. You will practice yoga postures to stabilize, strengthen and lengthen the pelvic floor, bringing awareness and balance to this vital part of your body; the floor of your core.
July 24th: Part 2
True Core Strength: Working the Deep Core
With your expanded awareness of your core through Part 1, we will dive right into working your core from its deeper layers. In this session, we will guide you through various postures and practices designed to help you intelligently engage and release specific muscles of your core from its deepest layers. As you’ve learned, the pelvic floor is ‘the floor of your core’, expect lots of work that originates from and resonates back to there. Come prepared to work!
Note: Part 1 can be taken alone. Part 1 is a pre-requisite for Part 2. If you’ve taken one of Liz’s pelvic floor workshops previously, you may be eligible to take Part 2.
