New Moon Tea Ceremony
With Na'ama Givoni
Location: New York City
Level: Open (all students welcome)
Cost: Suggested donation for this event is $10-$15.
In Chinese medicine, tea is considered a “shen” or spirit tonic through its ability to calm the mind, open the heart, remove energetic stagnation and connect us with Nature. Following the cultivation and craft of Cha Tao, Tea Ceremony offers a form of moving meditation and living art. It embraces the aesthetic and harmony between nature and culture.
The tea we will be drinking are living teas, that come from high mountains and valleys of Yunnan, China and Taiwan. Deep roots have anchored many of these ancient tea trees to their homes for hundreds of years. There is profound healing and medicinal power in these ancient trees. Free of any chemical fertilizers, pesticides or weed- killers they lend their quiet power to the craft and ritual of the tea ceremony.
Na’ama Givoni’s practice steams from the linage that her Tea teacher Wu De, founder of Global Tea Hut, has passed down from his Tea and Zen teachers. Global Tea Hut is a completely free teacenter in Taiwan. Donations from Na’ama’s ceremonies go to the cultivation of the center and the tea farmers who help sustain traditional ways of growing and processing tea.
