Yoga Nidra: A Guided Sleep Meditation
With Samantha Heckert
Location: Sag Harbor
Level: Open (all students welcome)
Yoga Nidra, translated as “Yogic Sleep,” is a state of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep. Join Samantha Heckert as she guides you through a set of verbal instructions and techniques including breath awareness, body scan and guided visualization that will move you through the layers of your consciousness into this deeply peaceful state.
Yoga Nidra is as old as yoga itself, having first been mentioned in the Upanishads. In this immensely powerful meditation technique, the practitioner rests in savasana and is systematically and increasingly made aware of the inner world and brought to a state of complete and profound relaxation. The practice of Yoga Nidra greatly relieves stress and anxiety, improves health, offers an opportunity to explore your inner-self, allows you to release long-held emotions and achieve a state of inner peace.
Yoga Nidra can be practiced at any age and easily incorporated into daily life. All are welcome!
Originally from Southampton, Samantha Heckert is a Kripalu-trained yoga instructor. She first experienced Yoga Nidra during her training at Kripalu but, it did not become part of her regular practice until years later after having a baby. She found the need for profound rest and care that traditional, more physical yoga practices couldn’t offer. Realizing that many of us do not make the time for deep restoration, she obtained her Yoga Nidra certification in the winter of 2018 and began offering Yoga Nidra to her students. She finds that it provides a beautiful balance to our active and often stressful daily lives.
